Adam Laboda is an independent working-class Director, Playwright, Producer, and Theatremaker from Shropshire, England. His creative practice focuses on telling important stories in fun and creative ways and supporting artists with opportunities for growth and development. Starting in 2024 with his show A Proper Working-Class Sausage Roll, Adam’s relationship with The Bread and Roses Theatre has flourished, from The Platform and the Playwrights Circle, Producer at The Lambeth Fringe, director of The Bread and Roses Theatre Playwriting Award Winner Kid Sister and as the theatre’s Production and Venue Assistant. He now takes up the role of Artistic Director, continuing The Bread and Roses Theatre’s ethos of supporting bold and innovative theatre into its next chapter. Lauren is a freelance Theatremaker, working across several disciplines and in many roles. She was previously Administrator for Canal Café Theatre and Production Assistant on NewsRevue, the world’s longest running live comedy show. She is co-founder of The Makers Theatre, Associate Artists of Brunel University of London and a member of Not Quite Theatre Co., a new London-based experimental theatre laboratory.
Building on Recent Growth
The appointments come at a landmark moment for The Bread & Roses Theatre. In January 2026, the venue unveiled a major refurbishment made possible through Lambeth Council’s RE:Purpose Grant, transforming the auditorium with new tiered seating and a studio theatre floor, improving the experience for audiences and creatives. The Bread & Roses Theatre has also seen substantial growth in recent years, with The Lambeth Fringe expanding into one of London’s largest arts festivals, bringing together hundreds of performances across 28 venues throughout the borough each autumn.
Alongside the transition, the organisation is continuing to invest in its digital infrastructure, artist development programmes and community partnerships.
Founded in 2012 and officially launched as a fringe venue in 2014 by Rebecca Pryle and Tessa Hart, The Bread & Roses Theatre has grown into one of London’s leading fringe theatres. Built by artists for artists, the theatre was founded on the belief that opportunity should not be limited by budget or background. It continues to champion new writing, underrepresented voices and accessible opportunities through its longstanding box office split model, sharing financial risk with companies rather than placing it solely on those producing the work.
Over the past twelve years, the theatre has supported thousands of creatives through its year-round programme of visiting productions, award-winning in-house work and artist development initiatives, including its Playwriting Award, Playwrights’ Circle, artist development programmes and annual V-day Fundraisers. The organisation has continued to invest in both its facilities and its wider creative community, including the installation of a new professional lighting rig in 2024 and receiving Arts Council England support for Lambeth Fringe in 2025.
