Special Award: Sue Buckmaster

Artistic Director of Theatre-Rites – for thirty years of exceptional, unique artistic vision for young audiences

This year Theatre-Rites celebrates thirty years of pioneering, multidisciplinary, immersive theatre for young audiences, with a unique artistic approach that challenges the expected.

Led by Artistic director Sue Buckmaster, their innovative work focuses on play and interaction while collaborating with world-class talent: children become more than spectators, positively engaged and empowered with agency.

Their productions consistently evolve, imagining visually stunning, often politically thought-provoking works that use puppetry, object-manipulation and dance to invite young people and their adults to enjoy high quality art and become an active, respected part of intelligent conversation about their world.

Sue additionally crafts international partnerships, mentors emerging talent and is an advisor to Sadler’s Wells, Polka Theatre and Schauspielhaus Bochum, Germany.
