PRESS RELEASE
We are delighted to announce the launch of an exciting, new initiative. From January onwards, Marylebone Theatre will host a range of regular courses and classes on the art of acting. These will take place in our three studio rooms, led by a faculty of experienced teachers and facilitators.
The programme will also include masterclasses from acclaimed theatre-practitioners, such asDame Harriet Walter and Dominic Cooke. In doing this, we are seeking to fill the gap left by the recent closure of the Actors Centre. This precious building, founded in 1978, was a major resource for the acting community of this country, started and nurtured by many of the most important figures in British theatre over the last decades, including Sir Laurence Olivier, Dame Sheila Hancock, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Sir Ian McKellen, Dame Judi Dench, Dame Julie Walters, David Harewood, Indira Varma, Sam West, Simon Callow and many others.
Despite the campaigning efforts of a dedicated group, it was closed in 2021. In partnership with this brave group – and in the hope that the spirit of the original Actor’s Centre will be with us – we are seeking to create a vibrant, new space for creativity and community. We hope the New Actors Centre will be a place where actors gather to hone their craft and keep alive the best elements of the great British theatre tradition.
New Actors Centre classes are designed for trained, professional actors, seeking to develop their craft, though they are also open to people with a sincere interest in the theatre with a performing background.
